5 Ways to Play Pokémon Go at Work (Without Getting Fired)

Updated: Added a fifth way!

While it’s important to have a good work-life balance, you also need to have a good balance between work and playing Pokémon Go. And, as someone who is desperately trying not to drop everything I’m doing today at work in order to catch rare Pokémon myself, I felt it was timely to provide my fellow Pokémon Masters with some tips and advice for getting your Pokémon Go fix during the workday without getting yourself fired for it. Let’s begin.

Do You Know What You're Worth?

If You Find a Pokémon on or Near Your Boss, Try to Ignore it.

Any real trainer knows that rare Pokémon can be found in all kinds of places. Including, for example, in your office or on your boss’s head. Unless you and your boss already have a clear and mutual understanding about playing Pokémon Go in your office, know that pointing your cellphone at your boss unexpectedly at work could come off as a little strange and put you in an awkward situation.

Take Frequent PokéWalks With Your Co-Workers.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, wild Pokémon don’t come to you. You have to go to (or lure) them. With that being said, a great way to get your Pokémon Go fix is to take frequent Pokémon walks with your co-workers around your office neighborhood. So wrangle up your best trainers and compete to see who can fill up their Pokédex the quickest.

Eat Your Lunch Outside.

If you work in an area that has provided you with optimal weather conditions, try eating your lunch at a local park or outdoor venue instead of at your desk. Pro tip: You are more likely to find rare Pokémon in parks vs. on the street, so keep your eyes peeled and make sure you bring plenty of Pokéballs!

Volunteer to Run Errands for Your Co-Workers

You might not normally be the first to volunteer to get coffee or lunch for all of your co-workers, but by doing so you can essentially guarantee yourself a solid 10-15 minutes of uninterrupted Pokémon Go time. Not only that, but you can come back looking like an office hero. And nobody has to know you did it all for the glory of Pokémon, you selfless shining star of an employee!

Invent a Job That Allows You to Play Pokémon Go All Day

If playing Pokémon Go on breaks from work isn’t enough, create a job where it’s all you do. This woman did, and she apparently charges $20/hr. to show other people how to master the game.

Sorry, I thought I was reading Payscale, but it appears I’ve stumbled in to Buzzfeed.

There is never a reason to play Pokeman Go when you are working. If it is at the office, get it at lunch or after work or on the weekend. NEVER when on the clock. Cant believe an article would encourage this.

Ha! I’m guessing most of the commenters already on here are NOT actually playing Pokemon Go, or they’d understand the issues at play here. I started playing as something I could do with my daughter who really enjoys it. We take walks around town in the evening, stopping at Pokestops, swinging by the river for some rare water types, dropping lures at the gazebo in the town square, etc. Its fun, and somewhat addicting if you’ve got that ‘check all the boxes’ gene. As you build your collection, you realize that in order to find some of the most rare… Read more »

Get serious. This article is uncalled for. People who are at work should be working. And we wonder why American productivity is down.
