But probably you don’t give your canine coworkers as much credit as Michael Reeg does his dog, Meeka. A District Sales Manager for Accuride International Inc. and a full-time telecommuter, Reeg has named Meeka the Employee of the Quarter at his home office. In fact, Meeka has won the honor at least four quarters running.

“Transitioning to a home-based position was quite a change,” says Reeg in an interview with The Dodo. “It’s quiet here. You need to get yourself fired up and excited about the day. Having a faithful companion in the office certainly helps.”
The Employee of the Quarter Is a Very Good Girl, Yes She Is
Reeg says that Meeka will report to his home office even when he’s on the road. She also helps him with his pitches.
“There are times that I’ll even talk to her as I work through a problem or map out a customer solution,” he says. “I try out my sales pitches and presentations on her. She’s not easily impressed or swayed. All she hears is ‘blah, blah, blah, Meeka’ — but she likes to hear my voice and I love that she pays attention. Having her in my office all day is something that we both look forward to.”
Before you accuse him of doling out awards based on bias toward canine employees, however, keep in mind that Meeka is one of two dogs in the Reeg household. Kya, the other family dog, will pop in from time to time — but only when Reeg’s wife isn’t available for company.
