No matter what the latest science might say, moving more is good for you, and we probably need to ditch the chair (at least a little bit) more often than we do. Here are some tips to get you away from maybe/probably and closer to a healthier you.
Of course, sitting is bad for your health. We are all well aware of this fact. Also, it feels crummy. Sitting all day at the desk in your office, (9.3 hours a day on average, to be exact), takes a toll. You try to sneak in a quick walk when you can, but that just isn't possible on a regular basis. Luckily, you aren't alone in your desire to move a little more and sit a little less at work. In fact, finding ways to combat the chronic immobility of the workplace is a popular topic now, and there are a lot of great tools and ideas out there to help you get moving.
American workers spend 21 hours a day being sedentary, and only three hours being active, according to research from Ergotron and research firm Research Now. In fact, 86 percent of respondents said that they sit "all day, every day," despite the fact that 70 percent said they hate sitting. Worst of all, more than half of those surveyed said that when they do get up, they use "getting food" as an excuse. Given that most companies aren't going to shell out for treadmill desks for everyone, is there any way to minimize the amount of sitting we're doing?
