One of the primary job responsibilities for the technician is to constantly monitor the performance of all equipment used in the delivering of anesthesia to patients. Because even small fluctuations of drugs administered in this process can have grave consequences, it is important that the technician be constantly aware of the proper working condition of this equipment. Typically, he or she will also log records of these inspections, with any anomalies and corrective actions noted. The technician prepares all equipment as needed for scheduled surgeries for his or her respective shift and secures any necessary additional gear. For any equipment needing servicing, the technician typically will be the person calling in professional service.
To work as an anesthesia technician, a prospective employee will typically complete high school and then have some sort of secondary or vocational school training. Technicians must be properly certified and pass all required testing. Anesthesia technicians typically work in a clinical or operating room environment.
