The foreperson will need to assist the crew wherever help is needed, including carrying out hard labor. Most of the work is on a full-time basis, though there may be breaks in between projects. The work of several crew members will be overseen, so it is important to make sure that they are doing the job in the correct manner. Behavior not beneficial to the goals of the project should be corrected immediately. Duties such as employee evaluations, hiring and firing, and administering payroll will be carried out by the foreperson. It may also be necessary to create daily and periodic reports for stakeholders and management.
The foreperson will often have to work within a budget and will need to make sure to keep costs low, though this should not interfere with the quality of work or materials used. The foreperson may need to have a degree in construction management, though some people will be able to become a foreperson by working their way up through the ranks. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
