They must make sure that all machinery and equipment are in good working condition. They must minimize downtime and improve productivity of various electrical machinery and/or all electrical systems. They must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems related to machinery, equipment, or the facility’s electrical systems. They recommend certain procedures and suitable actions to solve certain problems, in order to minimize or eliminate problems related to the facility’s electrical systems. They create preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to avoid problems in the electrical system. They may lead and train electrician technicians and more junior electrical maintenance engineers.
Employers prefer that electrical maintenance engineers have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or another related field. However, candidates who have an associate’s degree in a related fields may be considered by employers. Many employers prefer candidates who also have commensurate work experience. Electrical maintenance engineers must have strong computer skills. They must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, as well as in a team environment. They must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They must keep their technological skills up to date by attending training classes and workshops.
