This position does require one to be a licensed dentist. An aspiring endodontist should attain a bachelor’s degree before completing the dental admissions test and then attend dental school, which lasts an additional four years. An endodontist will need to undergo 2-3 years of additional training before completing the American Board of Endodontology exam and receiving his or her licensure.
An endodontist will be qualified to perform all typical dental procedures, in addition to their specialized treatment. Here are some common procedures and duties associated with being an endodontist: performing a root canal, following up a root canal with a cap or crown, diagnosing and treating various pain within the mouth and jaw, prescribing medicine for pain relief before and after dental procedures, performing various oral surgeries, removing diseased tissue, removing partial teeth, amputating the root of a tooth, treating infection, removing tooth implants, and replacing teeth. An endodontist should be extremely dexterous with the ability to focus on details. This person should pay a great deal of attention to the task at hand.
