Job Description for Inventory Controller
An inventory controller handles inventory-related tasks in a warehouse setting for their organization. Their primary duties include maintaining levels of inventory, reporting monthly inventory levels, labeling and recording inventory for future use, and maintaining accurate records. The inventory controller is in constant communication with departmental managers to ensure inventory is replenished and proper levels are maintained. Other responsibilities include assisting in the shipping and receiving of new shipments, logging all inventory purchases, conducting physical counts to make sure no theft is occurring, and assisting with loss prevention. Inventory controllers typically work in a warehouse setting, and there may be wide variations in temperature and the presence of chemicals depending on the environment. To be considered an inventory controller, one must have a high school diploma or equivalent; in most cases, a postsecondary degree is required. Math skills are essential, as the inventory controller works with inventory levels. One to two years of warehouse experience is usually required by employers. Additionally, an inventory controller must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision, but they should also be able to work well in a team setting with other warehouse staff.
