Proposal engineers (sales) work with designers and engineers to ensure a cost-effective solution for each customer’s specific needs. They serve as a facilitator from the start to finish of developing project proposals. This involves interacting with sales, design, and merchandising staff, as well as providing feedback to the customer. They are required to represent the company off-site to gather data, meet with customers, and find potential customers. Proposal engineers (sales) must be adaptable and able to quickly shift attention from one process or project to the next. It is important that the proposal engineer is able to fully understand and attempt to meet customers' needs in a timely and professional manner. Most companies require that proposal engineers (sales) hold at least an associate’s degree or technical certificate in a related field. Experience in a related position is generally required as well.
