Most of the time, registered nurses (RN), emergency room, work in the emergency rooms of hospitals. They may also work at sporting events and in ambulances and helicopters that provide medical evacuations. Their job is to provide quality patient care to patients who experience trauma or injury. They must perform triage on patients as soon as they arrive at their facility to determine the priority of treatment, based on their condition. They perform various tests on patients. They perform IV insertions. They must provide quality patient care, in accordance with established procedures and standards. They assist emergency physicians. They must formulate a plan of care with the physician. They must have excellent bedside manner. They interview patients if they are conscious. They may ask how they feel, what caused them to have to come to the emergency room, and what their drug allergies are. They write down medications that patients are currently taking. They write down everything that they think is relevant to the patient’s medical condition. They must be able to work well under pressure. They must have excellent bedside manner.
