The responsibilities of the sales supervisor include being able to hire, train, motivate, and develop an effective sales team that works well in meeting their company's and individual sales goals. The sales manager also deals with customer issues that arise for their sales team before or during the course of customer interaction; this often involves providing guidance to team members and/or speaking with the customer directly. Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution goals are required, as ensuring that customers are satisfied even in the face of problems is paramount. Strong communication is also required to ensure that customer's needs are understood and their options explained well to them. This position generally exists in a sales environment, which can vary from an internal sales floor to trips to client locations to make presentations.
It is recommended that most sales supervisors have an associate's or bachelor's degree in marketing or a related field. A strong background in a related position is generally required for this position, and most positions involve pay based on experience and/or performance.
