Job Description for Urban Designer

An urban designer help plan land use in urban locations for public and/or private entities. They perform a number of relevant duties, such as surveying land, analyzing existing land use and needs, and educating leaders and the public on projects as needed. Urban planners usually begin projects by working with government officials and relevant individuals and organizations within the city, learning about constituents' needs and other relevant information. The urban planner has to gather materials and information for the project, as there are usually many facets of a problem they have to take into consideration before making recommendations. They work with architects and other city officials on the project, including through reviewing site plans, assessing proposals, and helping make changes to proposals and work plans as needed.
