Building cleaners generally work for custodial/maintenance crews in office building, banks, and similar environments. The duties of building cleaners vary depending on the particular building's maintenance plans, but they will typically sweep, mop, and even polish tile or hard-surface floors in the building. They will also vacuum all carpeted floors, do any deep cleaning as required, and perhaps use specialized commercial equipment which may require on-the-job training to operate.
Building cleaners help dispose of all waste, empty all trash receptacles, and transfer collected trash to dumpsters. They will also be required to sweep and mop all restrooms, replace disposables, and dust and eliminate cobwebs. They may be given specialized jobs to perform on particular days of the week or month involving deep cleaning, carpet cleaning, or other small jobs.
A building cleaner is generally an entry-level position without strict education requirements. They must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds and be comfortable with reasonably strenuous manual labor. Most building cleaners work evenings and overnights or early mornings when the buildings' employees are absent to avoid distracting them from regular business operations.
