They are also responsible for assisting a designated nurse or nurses with their responsibilities during the course of the day, through tasks such as maintaining documentation of patient information and logging updates on patient care in the facility's computer systems. Ensuring that all supplies are ready for patients' treatments, procedures, and care may be another responsibility of the certified nurse's aide; those duties may vary from ensuring that tools are sterilized to preparing rooms to communicating with the patient so they have a good understanding of the treatment.
The certified nurse's aide generally work in a medical setting, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. The hours worked may vary depending on the facility's hours of operation; however, the certified nurse's aid may work long hours and spend many hours on their feet.
A certified nurse's aide generally must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, along with at least a year of experience in a similar care setting. Proper certification with the relevant state agency is also required for this position, as is comfort working in medical settings and the ability to use basic computer software. - Entertain, converse with, or read aloud to patients to keep them mentally healthy and alert.
- Direct patients in simple prescribed exercises or in the use of braces or artificial limbs.
