A policy officer analyzes data and makes sure that company policies and government regulations are adhered to. They gather information and analyze it in relation to policies and their effect on their organization. The policy officer is tasked with creating reports with supporting evidence related to this data and may have to present it to others within the company. The policy officer might help the company to create relationships with government officials and other companies. as well as lobby for their organization, defending its rights within the law. When there are changes in policy, the policy officer needs to alert others within the company of changes in policies and their potential implications. These professionals must perform continuous research to make sure that the company is up to date with all relevant laws and policies. Policy officers might also be tasked with helping company executive develop new policies that are in line with the law and the company mission statement as well.
Usually, at least a bachelor’s degree in public administration or another relevant field is needed for this position. Previous experience in a related position is generally required or preferred as well. Since interaction with other employees is a regular part of the job, strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed.
