Reporting analysts work in a business environment in a large number of industries -- from healthcare to finance -- that handle vast amounts of data. Reporting analysts often coordinate with IT departments, particularly when implementing data collection procedures, and generally report to and primarily communicate with management. Although the reports created are used for client presentations, reporting analysts aren't typically required to have direct interaction with customers.
A bachelor's degree is an almost universal requirement for this position. Degrees in business, finance, or management information systems are usually preferred. Extensive computer software skills with programs such as SQL, Access, and Microsoft Excel are also generally required, but there are no common certifications for this job type.
