Job Description for Senior Systems Engineer (Computer Networking / IT)
Senior systems engineers (computer networking/IT) are generally responsible for managing and maintaining computer systems and tools; finding and fixing issues within systems; and implementing, monitoring, and building tools that automate repetitive tasks to minimize errors and prevent downtime. They develop automation frameworks using tools such as Chef and Puppet, and they generally must be familiar with version control systems such as git, relational databases like Oracle or MySQL, web servers (Apache and NGINX), and CMS applications (Drupal or Wordpress). Knowledge of Linux and/or Solaris is necessary. They must also be proficient in at least one programming language such as Ruby, Python, Perl, or PHP. They must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and must be comfortable at a command line using vi.
