In the area of personnel management, the service technical manager performs a variety of functions, including scheduling employees' hours and delegating tasks to staff. The service technical manager is also responsible for screening and recruiting new employees, along with terminating problematic employees.
As a project manager, the service and repair technical manager determines the scope and requirements of each project. They then break the project up into smaller tasks that can be delegated to individuals or teams, as well as monitor the progress of the tasks. Finally, they integrate all employees' tasks into a completed project, perform any necessary testing, and implement the project product.
Aside from the purely managerial aspects of the position the service and repair technical manager performs several operational tasks, such as overseeing the execution of repair procedures to ensure they are in compliance with the firm's strategies and exhibit industry best practices. They also ensure that equipment is properly maintained and may oversee programs intended to effectively maintain and repair firm equipment.
Due to the technical nature of the position, a bachelor's degree is generally required. If project management is a focus of the position, a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification may also be required.
