A supply chain specialist ensures that supplies and inventory are ordered, received, replenished, and kept at appropriate levels so the business could function properly. They are a main point of contact for suppliers, and they make sure any questions by members on their organization on those suppliers are dealt with in an effective and timely manner. The supply chain specialist also must ensure that accurate records of supplies and inventory levels are maintained, and they must analyze data around the use or depletion of these resources over time. Communication with other teams is essential, as the supply chain specialist must stay up to date on information regarding changes in production or upcoming marketing that may affect demand for supplies. The ability to effectively prepare and present reports to show trends and data on supplies and/or inventory to management is expected as well.
Candidates for this position are generally expected to have an associate's or bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
