Typists hold general data-entry positions and are employed by a large variety of companies, such as those in medicine, education, and the private sector. Because typists may work in many fields, each employer will likely require a different knowledge base. Additionally, while positions are available for just data entry, some typists may also be asked to handle some clerical responsibilities, such as greeting customers, answering phones, and responding to emails.
