Job Description for Waiter/Waitress Counter
Counter waiters and waitresses work with kitchen staff, shift leaders, and managers to serve customers food from a counter (such as at a diner or take-out counter). These waiters are generally responsible for preparing tables or eating areas for customers' meals, taking patrons' orders, answering any questions, and making suggestions based on patron's wants. They are also in charge of writing down and processing food orders, serving food, and responding to any customer needs to ensure a pleasant dining experience. If the customer has any problems, the waiter must immediately take action to resolve any issues and (if required) involve management to ensure the customer is satisfied. Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position, although requirements vary depending on the employers' needs. It is also preferred that waitresses/waiters have some kitchen and/or restaurant experience. Counter waiters commonly need to be available to work day and evening hours, and they can expect to be able to work weekends and holidays. Most of counter waiters' earnings come from tips, and the ability to provide courteous, efficient service is needed in this position.
