Design engineers must have advanced computer and applications knowledge. An engineer must be able to thoroughly understand all of the machines and structures they draw, as well as understand the principles of electrical currents and how they work. To become a design engineer, a bachelor’s degree is needed in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
