An advertising account director serves as an intermediary between their organization's clients and the various departments involved in creating advertising products. The account director works to understand what is needed to create a successful advertising campaign for their client, conducting discussions with the client and research into the client’s competition. They help the client understand how the director's company can help them achieve success, and they may conduct some marketing, usually with the help of a marketing or sales department, to gain new accounts and exploring new markets.Read More...
The account director also has to follow up with the departments involved in production monitor progress for subsequent reporting to the client. When problems are encountered within production, the account director may be responsible for conducting problem solving to develop solutions. They may also oversee a budget and ensure involved departments are performing tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as advertising or public relations is generally required for this role, as is relevant experience. Advertising account directors must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and colleagues within their company.
