Job Description for Beauty Therapist
Beauty therapists usually work in salons, spas, health clubs, or home salons. They help individuals select cosmetics that not only compliment and enhance their features, but also recommend and sell products to clients that promote healthy skin. Being qualified to sell these products means having a wide knowledge base and passion for learning about new products on the market. Beauty therapists also need to know how to provide a comforting, effective massage, how to apply a flattering artificial tanner, and how to safely tint eyelashes and dye eyebrows.Read More...
Skilled beauty therapists may start with the face, providing services in acne facials, identifying skin type, recommending appropriate products for a client, and performing hair removal through methods such as waxing and electrolysis. Their work is not just about physical beauty, so having a calm, friendly demeanor is essential to helping the client feel good about themselves inside and out.
Beauty therapists with a level 2 qualification are allowed to work as spa assistants and perform manicures, facials, some waxing, and tanning. However, a level 3 qualification is generally preferred by employers since they are qualified to perform the full range of job tasks safely and effectively.
Salons are usually open Monday through Saturday, so beauty therapists may work during salon hours six days a week if they're the only beauty therapist on staff. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
