Job Description for Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Operator

Computer aided design and drafting (CADD) operators use computer software to create designs for projects, developing drafts that meet project requirements and client needs. They are also responsible for modifying existing designs and suggesting changes as needed. CADD operators also need to be able to communicate technical ideas to non-technical staff, as well as design and prepare plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. In addition, they use their knowledge of building techniques to add structural details to plans.

CADD operators are also responsible for preparing multiple versions of designs as they receive feedback from engineers and architects, as well as specifying dimensions and materials for new projects. CADD operators must use drafting and modeling software in line with company standards and templates, and they generally report their progress to their company's drafting supervisor.

An associate’s degree in computer drafting and design or a related field is required for this job. In addition, previous experience in a CADD operator capacity may be preferred or required as well. Industry certifications may be beneficial. CADD operators must posses strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
