Job Description for Computer Service Technician

Computer service technicians diagnose problems with computers, including hardware, software, and malware. Whatever the cause, the service technician is expected to identify the problem, offer a cost estimate for fixing it, and fix it upon approval. Most problems a technician encounters are fairly routine and easily isolated, especially if they are found by regular hardware diagnostics, while problems with system software, malware, or even networking difficulties may be harder to diagnose and more labor- and time-intensive.
Applicants for the position should have some amount of technical school education in computers or practical experience related to computer repair. Some dedicated repair shops and authorized service centers may also require technicians to have technical certifications in computer science-related areas. Technicians typically work in repair shop environments, although some employers do on-site repair and diagnostics which may also require field work. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
