A cosmetician provides outstanding customer service, promotes sales of beauty products, and works toward objectives. A successful cosmetician should have thorough knowledge of beauty products and services, excellent makeup application skills, and a strong interest in health and beauty. A cosmetician will be also be tasked with certain physical requirements, such as periods of standing, bending, and extending the arms. A cosmetician will work with their hands, applying makeup and other beauty products for clients. Cosmeticians may be required to provide their own tools, such as makeup cleaning products, makeup brushes, sponges, tweezers, capes, and hair clips.
Work will typically be done in an indoor environment like a store, salon, or spa. However, the work may also be done in a remote location, such as a studio or set. Coworkers may include cosmetologists, stylists, and technicians.
