Graphic Designer Advice

Q: What do you wish you knew about your job when you first started out?

Graphic Designer in Waterloo:
"Work smart not harder."
Know your responsibilities and don't do things that are not. Because it'll just stress and over work you, making this fun job miserable.

Graphic Designer in Toronto:
"Never loose your passion."
When you don't feel the passion, and work actually feels like work, re-evaluate your position and the job.

Graphic Designer in Toronto:
"Wish there was more room to grow."
In house GD jobs are safe, but don't pay that much and there is little room to grow.

Graphic Designer in Toronto:
"That business thinking is as important as design thinking."

Graphic Designer in Vancouver:
"Enjoyable work But A Struggle For Big Money."
This is a great career for those who love it. I'm one of those people who can actually say I love my job and I like going into the office. In return, however, there is definitely a pay cap if you work in certain areas. Advertising may pay more, but can be more demanding and less creative depending on your skills. It is possible to make great money, but you have to work hard so don't go into this if its not something you love!

Graphic Designer in Hamilton:
"Jack Of All Trades, No Time To Master One."
Being bounced around from project to project is going to be frustrating. Learn to let the big picture take precedent. If there isn't a cohesive big picture guiding your work, go elsewhere.

Graphic Designer in Toronto:
"Knowing how knowledgeable your employers are."
Be prepared for your ideas not to be considered.
