"Your designs are limited to a customer's taste or lack of."
Senior Graphic Designer:
Be very knowledgeable about both print design (color separations, technical layouts for various presses, importance of resolution, troubleshooting designs that don't print well etc.) and make sure you are just as knowledgeable in web design, SEO, and animation design. Otherwise you pigeon-hole yourself into 1 industry and limit your pay opportunities. Realize you're amazing creative ideas will be completely watered down to suit what your customer uncreative customer prefers. You are a tool that provides a customer with the design THEY want, not the design YOU want to give them. You must be able to sacrifice your perfect design to give a customer their perfect design and also in order to meet strict stressful deadlines. Complicated designs look great, but cause huge headaches to get them to print correctly. They cause glitches in prepress software. Know what "bleed" is and use it! Know the colors you see on your monitor will not be identical when printed on a press (RGB to CMYK).
