Account clerks maintain financial records and may be called upon to assist with the maintenance and auditing of accounts, including accurately tracking expenses and filing bank statements and other financial documents. Some experience with Microsoft Office software, particularly Word and Excel, may be necessary for this position and a high school diploma or equivalent is often a minimum requirement. Some employers may also require a bookkeeping certification or prefer those with a financial background or some college education.
Account clerks work in a wide range of industries to maintain financial records for businesses big and small. They may work with minimal or regular supervision depending on the size of the employer and delegated responsibilities.
