The BIM manager must make sure all elements of the model are in accordance with the BIM project execution plan, including project set-up and development. They communicate with various departments and managers on how to implement any changes or customization, providing leadership and oversight for the flow of data with designers, contractors, and various other personnel. The BIM manager benefits from having a knowledge of model-based delivery and automating tasks, and they are responsible for project set-up and technical administration, as well as for performing project work. A BIM manager generally works full time, usually in a construction office, engineering or architectural firm, or for a building manufacturer.
Generally a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, construction, or another relevant field is required for BIM manager positions. Experience is also required in design modeling, construction management, and 3D and BIM software such as Revit Architecture, AutoCAD, and Navisworks. Collaborative and people skills are essential, as BIM managers work extensively with members of the design team, estimators, owners, and subcontractors, among others.
