Because the work environment can vary substantially, many aspects of the job of a client services associate are variable as well. For example, the working hours: While client services associates who work in the financial services industry will generally work standard first-shift (“9 to 5”) hours, those who fill this position in the retail industry may have more unusual hours, so as to accommodate the busy schedules of store managers who are busiest during the middle of the day.
Likewise, physical demands of the job can also change with the employer. A client services associate in early childhood education will likely spend most of their time in an office or preschool-type setting, meeting with parents and children to ensure that they are receiving custom-tailored educational plans. On the other hand, a wholesale client services associate may not only meet with managers in their offices, but also be responsible for “servicing” their accounts, up to and including delivering stock to and arranging stock on the sales floor.
Qualifications are also generally dictated by the employer in question. To return to the aforementioned examples, financial services and early childhood education client services associates will likely be required to hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field of expertise. In some cases they may also be asked to complete additional certifications, such as CFP (Certified Financial Planner) or teaching certificates. Those who work in retail, however, may merely need a high school education and some related experience, such as sales or even delivery work. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
