Project assistants serve an administrative function which typically involves sorting and filing important documentation, as well as setting up design/production meetings, distributing project updates, and facilitating team communication by performing background work on conference calls or video chats. They may also be responsible for ensuring that all scheduled progress reports are collected in a timely manner and any timetable changes are communicated.
Those in this position must ensure that all members of various project teams have the resources they need. This work can be as simple as ensuring that all computers and printers are maintained and in good working order, or that office supplies are replenished and restocked. Project assistants also work with other departments outside the project team to provide necessary communication, such as feedback from quality assurance groups on early alpha versions or prototypes of existing projects.
Most project assistants have at least some secondary education, such as an associate's degree from a community college or vocational school. Education requirements vary by employer, and in some technical projects an undergraduate degree may be necessary. Prior experience in administrative work is often required, as well. Most project assistants work regular business hours in an office environment. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
