Aeronautical engineers must have a bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, electrical, electronic, chemical, industrial, mechanical, aeronautical, or computer) or in technical field. They must also have significant work experience in a relevant field. Experience with aeroacoustics, aerodynamics, or computational fluid dynamics is preferred. A master’s degree in aeroacoustics or a related is often preferred.
Aeronautical engineers work in a team environment. They must have excellent oral and written communication skills. They must keep themselves up to date with various new technology. They are encouraged to take continuing education courses. They must read relevant engineering journals. They must be willing to attend various workshops and conferences. They often must be able to communicate efficiently and effectively with both internal and external customers regarding technology integration and specific requirements and outcomes. Therefore, good customer service skills are required for jobs that require clients' interaction.
