The key roles of an analytics analyst are to create strategies to measure data for the company and then use that information to help the company create the most efficient working environment possible. The analytics analyst generally works in an office environment, many times with a team. They are also required to work with different departments within their organization on both collecting data and then utilizing it in an organizational plan. The analyst must identify the type of performance numbers that should be tracked and then monitor that data in a way that is effective, repeatable, and scalable. Most of the time, analytics analyst positions require at least a bachelor's degree in a related field, as well as proficiency in data collection and knowledge of programs such as SQL, SAS, Microsoft Business Intelligence Suite and QlikView. The analyst also needs strong mathematical, project management, and team building skills. Additionally, they should be able to communicate information and data in a clear, concise way and be able to give a persuasive analysis of the information to a variety of audiences.
