Job Description for Assistant Lecturer, Postsecondary / Higher Education

The main responsibility of an assistant lecturer is to assist the lecturer with anything they need help with in the classroom. The assistant lecturer usually reports to the lecturer and the department that they are assigned to. They do any work assigned by the lecturer and help to run an efficient lecture. Some tasks that an assistant lecturer may expect to do on a day to day basis are the following: grading assignments, holding office hours for students, assisting the professor with lectures, grading exams, proctoring exams, tutoring students, holding supplemental lectures, coming up with new assignments for students to do, and making sure that the class is keeping up with the syllabus and/or curriculum.
