Lead applications developers must be proficient with several programming languages for efficiency in scripting and coding, and they also assist in company meetings to suggest new functionality and changes to applications. They report their progress to an applications supervisor in their department and must also provide leadership for developers and help solve any doubts before completing milestones. They also assist with troubleshooting tasks to solve problems before launch.
Lead applications developers work with other information technology (IT) professionals to coordinate application activities, measure performance and memory consumption, and verify that all applications are compatible in all systems. They typically work in an office environment during regular business hours and use a personal computer loaded with programming tools to code and analyze programs. They also read lines of code to find discrepancies which prevent applications from running correctly and should have strong multitasking and problem-solving skills to identify errors in software. They also manage a team of applications specialists to complete coding in a timely manner.
