They must keep accurate records of samples for further data analysis and follow strict safety regulations to prevent on-the-job accidents, and they use a personal computer to conduct investigation activities, record information, run calculations, and write reports based on their findings. They should be proficient with word processors and spreadsheet software, and also use their leadership skills to overcome research obstacles and accomplish objectives.
These managers typically report their progress to a scientific research supervisor and should have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with research teams, verify requirements, and oversee research activities according to specific protocols. They usually work in an office and/or laboratory environment wearing a lab coat and protective gear, and share important research information with other scientists and supervisors. A bachelor's degree in a scientific field is often a minimum requirement for this position, and relevant prior experience is highly beneficial. Science certifications are also helpful.
