This position typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, such as industrial or chemical engineering. Some larger companies may prefer their engineers to receive post-graduate administration degrees as well. The senior manufacturing engineer is the person tasked with implementing, monitoring, and introducing new production systems, and thus they should have excellent organization skills and be good communicators.
They may also interface with other parts of the company as well. They often analyze issues such as customer relations claims regarding a company’s products, making improvements as necessary. They work with development to implement systems for the manufacturing new products, and they work with the manufacturing manager and the purchasing department to acquire new materials and equipment necessary to safely and efficiently create new goods and maintain the most efficient processes for manufacturing of existing goods. They also help the manufacturing manager maintain production standards by the continual monitoring of equipment operation to ensure that all process flow and production systems are operating at peak.
