Job Description for Senior Product Engineer
Senior product engineers are responsible for all aspects of the design, implementation, and management of new products' development. This involves taking customer needs and expectations, merging those with their design knowledge, and planning a new engineering product. Once a design has been established and all necessary consultation with clients and other engineers has occurred, the manufacturing process must be designed and implemented. After manufacturing, the final product must be assembled and analyzed for quality and to ensure it meets all user and design specifications. Senior product engineers are ultimately responsible for all stages of this work and monitor closely all progress. Senior product engineers work in a mix of environments. They meet with clients in office and in manufacturing settings to discuss design elements and product needs. They meet with other engineers and managers to discuss strategies and implementation, and they supervise initial manufacturing during the prototype and development stages of production. Senior product engineers generally work a standard 40-hour week, with some overtime required depending on project deadlines and customer needs.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, typically with an emphasis in a specific field such as mechanical or electrical engineering, is required for senior product engineers.
