Compliance coordinators are responsible for facilitating the development, implementation, and management of all compliance programs for their organization. They are in charge of ensuring that all regulations are being followed without incident, as well as writing detailed reports for management based on their observations. One of their main responsibilities includes providing safety and privacy support for compliance initiatives and policies. Compliance coordinators also take part in developing the processes necessary for their company and external customers to remain compliant with any new regulatory requirements. Compliance coordinators work with investigators to create new protocols, improved informed consent forms, case report forms, and other relevant documents as needed. They are in charge of evaluating potential hazardous situations, as well as conducting accident investigations. Compliance coordinators also provide training and perform inspections and assessments.
A bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or a related field is required for this job. Previous experience in a compliance capacity is generally required or preferred as well. Industry certifications may be beneficial. Compliance coordinators must work well with colleagues to reach all compliance objectives in a timely manner; however, they must also work on their own with minimal supervision. They need to be organized individuals with excellent time-management skills who are able to multitask on a variety of compliance projects at a time.
