Job Description for First-Line Supervisor / Manager of Production and Operating Workers

A manager of production and operating workers, also known as a first-line supervisor, typically oversees 20 or more front-line employees. The workers under supervision of the first-line supervisor are most likely laborers that complete production on-site. The first-line supervisor must watch over these employees and ensure that high production speed and quality are met. They may at times need to hire new employees, as well as train new hires. Another important component of the job of a first-line supervisor is employee safety; the manager must ensure that all safety guidelines are met, and they develop and implement strategies to ensure a safe work setting, including identifying potential hazards on the job site.
