Furniture finishers are tasked with evaluating, repairing, and maintaining wood furniture to keep it in optimal condition. These finishers typically inspect furniture to identify any damage and offer solutions for how to repair or restore the piece, and both prior experience with full and minor restoration and the ability to work on modern and antique furniture are necessary for this position.

Furniture finishers often replace parts for furniture, and some are made in-shop while others are fabricated elsewhere. For specific projects, they usually provide an estimated time-frame for completing the work, taking into account outside factors or potential errors, and they must keep their working area clean and neat at all times, as outside interference or dirt can cause problems during the restoration process.

Interpersonal skills are highly beneficial for this position, as furniture finishers often work in teams and groups, and they must also be willing to please customers who have demanding or difficult requests for their furniture.
