Senior computer aided design (CAD) designers are in charge of creating designs for their organization using specialized computer-based applications; to create these designs, the senior CAD designer uses specific requirements for their project and industry standards. They develop effective designs to resolve engineering issues and create phased development plans for improving existing civil engineering designs. They create CAD drafts that create a clear architectural image for other professionals to follow, provide relevant instructions using their technical expertise, and suggest changes to current drawings. Senior CAD designers must constantly evaluate and provide feedback throughout the design process. Additionally, they may need to order new draft prints and other supplies for their department. Senior CAD designers work with other designers with similar experience to reach company objectives in a timely manner, and they present their work to the management team for consideration. They must work with other departments in their organization to provide solutions to technical problems as they arise. The minimum educational requirement for this position is an associate's degree in a related field. Previous experience may be preferred.
