The senior mechanical designer's main duties include anticipating and resolving mechanical design issues, coaching junior designers, and participating in training sessions when new technology is introduced into the design process. Additionally, they participate in the data collection and field verification phases. They strive to maintain high quality productions and assist other senior technical staff with recommendations on design requirements. They review and approve mechanical drawings, and manage project schedules.
A bachelor's degree in a related field and previous experience are required for this position, and industry certifications may be beneficial. Senior mechanical designers must be able to create efficient mechanical blueprints, use relevant computer software (such as AutoCAD software), and have excellent problem-solving skills.
