Louisa (originally named Louisa Court House) is a town in Louisa County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,401 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Louisa County. Bloomington, Boxley Place, the Louisa County Courthouse, and Louisa High School are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Louisa is located at 38°1′27″N 78°0′6″W (38.024057, -78.001584). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), of which 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²) is land and 0.55% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,401 people, 584 households, and 331 families residing in the town. The population density was 766.8 people per square mile (295.6/km²).
