Airline reservation agents must be able to quickly and confidently navigate a computer and their airline's software. The ability to multi-task, particularly talking on the phone while navigating the computer, is important, and accurately inputting data and reporting information is essential. They must be able to work at a fast pace while articulately conveying information to clients in order to succeed.
A high school diploma or GED and at least eighteen or twenty-one years of age may be required for this position, and agents must also pass the training offered by the airline for its computer systems and meet and maintain other particular requirements. Many airlines require at least one year of prior customer service experience. The abilities to sit for long periods of time and speak clearly and professionally are important in this position, and some agents may be required to pass background checks in order to handle clients' credit card information. Those in this position generally work in busy call centers for eight hours per day, and most of that time is spent on the computer and talking to clients. (Copyright 2017 PayScale.com)
