CCU nurses work almost exclusively in large general and heart-focused hospitals with some exceptions in smaller doctors' offices, and they typically work long shifts of up to twelve hours or more. A college degree in nursing and current registered nurse (RN) certification in the state of employment are necessary for this position, and CCU nurses may work in stressful and traumatic situations, such as with accident victims or in situations which require immediate heart surgery.
