What is it like working as an Editor in Chief, Newspaper?
October 2016
The work I do.
Editor in Chief, Newspaper:
Pros: I love to write. I enjoy covering local politics and social issues. I like working with a variety of people and covering interesting stories. I get a great deal of satisfaction mentoring young, up and coming reporters.
Cons: There are not enough people to cover as much news as I would like and to create the quality of newspaper I am aiming for. I would like to cover more substantive stories and put them on the cover. I am frustrated by the same stories, catering to advertisers over substantive topics. Employees are not paid enough to be sufficiently motivated to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Commercialism seems to be taking over editorial content in terms of priorities.
