Job Description

Engineering lab assistants perform a wide variety of duties to facilitate the effective operation of an engineering lab; their duties vary depending on the type of laboratory for which they work. These assistants usually work under the direction of scientists, engineers and/or researchers. Tasks commonly performed by engineering lab assistants include helping test materials, ensuring their lab is clean, overseeing inventory, and ordering supplies and materials needed by their lab. If they work at a university’s lab, these assistants may help set up instruments and assist students who are performing research. Additionally, engineering lab assistants may have to troubleshoot minor problems related to lab instruments and tools, as well as perform regular maintenance. They must comply with their company’s safety guidelines and procedures at all times, and they may be required to attend training classes to learn new skills or to keep their current skills up to date.
